Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This......Sometimes.
Although, does anyone ever have dreams that make sense ?
Here are two quick synopses of my recent dreams.
Last Night's Dream:
I am in some random club / bar and I am singing karaoke with Donnie Wahlberg. Ok, as I stated above, not altogether weird, but strange enough. In addition to this all of my friends were also in this random club/bar and were laughing at me singing karaoke with Donnie. Laughing like it was the funniest thing they've ever seen in their lives. Donnie was wearing shades and would not take them off. I don't remember what I was wearing.
What were we singing you ask ? Reunited by Peaches & Herb.
Although I will say if opportunity ever presented itself for me to sing karaoke with Donnie I would surely take full advantage. It was loads on fun in my dream.
Last Week's Dream - The really odd one.
I am sitting on a garden bench with John McEnroe ( I believe we were in his back yard ) and he is interviewing my to be a nanny for his kids. I remember that he was completely disinterested in anything I had to say, but told me I could have the job as long as I kept the kids away from Tatum O'Neal. He also told me I could have all of Tatum's clothes if I did a good job.
Then he told me I had to take his kids on vacation to his beach house. So I packed up and took the kids on vacation to his beach house and I was pissed that there was no coffee maker in said beach house.
I told you it was weird.
Although what I think is more odd about this is when I told my friend Molly about this dream she replied with the following;
" Why wouldn't John McEnroe have a coffee maker in his beach house ? "
'Cause you know, walking off with Tatum O'Neal's wardrobe is just an everyday occurrence....
So, if any of you have had some truly strange dreams I'd love to hear about them.

Retro Music Friday - We've Seen Hell.
OK, not really, but we came thisclose. We saw Dave Matthews Band Wednesday night at the Great Woods.
For those not familiar - Great Woods was the first name of the facility when it was built back in the day. Then it was called The Tweeter Center. Now it's called The Comcast Center. Due to my deep and abiding affinity for all things " Old School ", including frequent use of the phrase " back in the day ", I have taken to calling it Great Woods again.
I mean, I could go along with The Tweeter Center - that was OK for me. But the Comcast Center ? It just reminds me that Comcast pillages my wallet once a month with their outages fees for their somewhat-less-than-fantastic cable TV and Internet.
And - this is hilarious - they sell Willow Tree chicken salad there ( if you've not had Willow Tree - dudes -you are seriously missing out ) and there are random signs all over the pavilion advertising the sale of said chicken salad. The signs read " Makes Tweeter Taster Sweeter . "
I kid you not.
File that under Finding Porno In Your Everyday Life.
At any rate, Brock and I have some mad love for Dave Matthews & Co. We frequently listen to DMB while cleaning house on the weekends.
We've seen DMB twice before. Once ( 2004 ) at Great Woods and then (2006) at Fenway Park.
The '04 show blew.us.away. Sheer awesomeness.
The '06 show was good, however as conducive to baseball as Fenway is, it is by no means a concert venue. I think the novelty of seeing anything other than baseball at Fenway is what draws people in.
We knew we were in for it last night as soon as we pulled into the parking lot.
We were early for the show, (I mean, we could have gone in, but really - who actually wants to see an opening act ? ) so we decided to chill in the parking lot for a while. Looking back I think the highlight of our evening was people watching and eating burritos in car.
Brock looked around at the activity going on around us and said
" Oh Holy Shit - WE'RE OLD ! "
I'm glad he finally got the memo.
People, it looked like a Girls Gone Wild DVD mated with and Abercrombie & Fitch catalog.
If I had to hear " Like....oh my God !" one more time I swear, my ears were going to start bleeding. And all the girls ( and I mean girls ) had on the same uniform, which consisted of a strappy little cami, short shorts and flip flops. What do they call that....conforming to not conform ?
Things did not improve once we were inside. There was a young lady behind us that kept yelling " FUCK YEAH ! " every few minutes.
Then some other kids sat in front of us and started rolling their own, if you catch my drift. Then the people who actually had the seats in front of us showed up and kicked out the doob rollers. So we're all like - THANK GOD ! No judgement on doob smokers here...I just don't wanna smell it all night long. Then the kids in front of us proceeded to make out for the better part of oh...and hour and a half. I mean, I totally got it. They were probably 19 and hot for each other, but come on...get a room already. I don't think I would have minded the making out had they been at least more than 12 inches from my face.
Brock described our experience best when he said it was like Jimmy Buffett for 18 year olds.
People, we've seen the future....be afraid. Be very afraid.
BTW, this is Ants Marching live from Central Park. This song came out in 1994 - I was 18 and a senior in High School.

RIP George - You Foul-Mouthed S.O.B
*WARNING - NOT FOR THE EASILY OFFENDED ! *
I was totally bummed to hear that George Carlin passed away yesterday. Brock and I saw George live last summer and we could tell that he was getting on in years. The cadence and rhythm with which he told jokes was a little off - a little slower than we thought he'd been from seeing his previous HBO specials. I thought that perhaps he was not on his game since he had just come from rehab, but having a heart condition can do a real number on a person - as George apparently had.
I saw George Carlin live when I was 18 and I have to say, I laughed so hard my sides hurt when I left. During this particular show - toward the end of the show - he unrolled a scroll of paper that must have been about 25 feet long from off of which he read at least 250 euphemisms for male masturbation. Some of which I use to this day. Namely, " Shaking hands with the unemployed " and "Patting the Robertson "
One time I was discussing male masturbation with my mother and I had used the euphemism " Choking the Chicken " and my mother thought I was talking about an actual chicken. She said " Ooooh, poor chicken ! "
My sister and I may not have too much in common, or talk much for that matter, but this sends us into hysterics every time.
So - please have a laugh on George - I'm sure he'd like that.

Retro Music Friday.
I heard this song on the radio twice this week - which I thought was kind of odd as this is not usually a song you hear too often these days. Although I remember it being played quite frequently back in the day. This song was released in 1982 - I was 6 and in the 1st grade. This is Toto BTW.
This song is about Rosanna Arquette of that Wacky Arquette Family. I believe she was dating the guitar player from Toto at the time although I was not able to confirm this in my research.
I guess I like this song - it makes me reminisce more than anything. I mean, it's not like I'm jumping out of my skin and getting whipped into a frenzy when I hear it on the radio.
Happy Friday Everyone !

Reliving My Youth, If Only For A Brief Sliver Of Time.
OK, I'll give you a hint....
Still don't know ? Ok, here's another hint....
The Mister and I saw REM live and in the flesh last night. And it was AWESOME !
And I know you all know how much I love REM.
For the two hours they played I felt like I was 19 again...only this time without all the angst.
Which, when I think about it....it felt as if Micheal Stipe has left all his angst behind as well.
Michael Stipe may not look like much...but man oh man...he has a HUGE stage presence and can really connect with an audience.
For me at least ( and I'm probably not the only one who feels this way ) seeing REM again was like seeing an old buddy that you've not seen for a really long time.
The pictures above are actual photos from the show they did last night. And no, I was not that close to the stage ( I wish ), these were posted on their website.
I have a few other observations from last night as well - don't I always ? Brock and I were trying to figure out what demographic would be the most common denominator attending last night's show. We figured it would be the 30-something crowd and we were mostly right.
However, there were also some oh...50-somethings there as well. And...this really blew my mind.....the Abercrombie & Fitch crowd was seriously representin' last night. Popped collars and all. The 50-somethings didn't bother me so much as I know REM put their first album out in 1983. But the A & F crowd ? Do they know the words to Driver 8 ? I think not.
Go get in your Jetta and go the hell home Brittney, you're gonna miss the My Sweet 16 marathon on MTV2.
We did see two 50 somethings gettin' down to Modest Mouse ( ?) last night. I didn't see this until Brock elbowed me and said " Hey, check out the viagra commercial over there. "
People, if you could have seen what we saw....my god....there was white man's overbite and everything. I busted out laughing - and you guys know how crazy loud my laugh can be when I really get going.
I had some other working titles for today's post. Other than the title I chose I was torn between When Middle Aged People Attack; My Life In A Viagra Commercial
or
Why Didn't Someone Tell Me It Was Urban Outfitters Employee Appreciation Day ?

Retro Music Friday.
This is my favorite U2 song. Last night I was trying to explain to Brock why this is my favorite U2 song. If you listen to it very carefully you realized that...
A) It is a very complex song, technically speaking. It took them a long time to get this song just right and it was almost scrapped all together.
And
B) There is something very.....cleansing..about this song. If you're having a crappy day and play this song somehow it makes you feel better.
This song was on The Joshua Tree - which was released in 1987. I was 11 and in the 6th grade. In an odd coincidence, my cousin Nate was also " released " in 1987 as he turned 21 yesterday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATE ! Although I have to say, the fact that my baby cousin Nate is 21 makes me feel REALLY FREAKING OLD ! I used to change his diapers for Pete's sake !
If you've not listened to The Joshua Tree in a while do yourself a favor and bust it out. You won't be disappointed.
Achtung, Baby is also a killer CD - check that one out too.
I feel I should include Brock's favorite U2 song HERE. It's on his iPod.
I hope Brock and I can have deep, meaningful discussions about our favorite U2 songs after a kid shows up - whenever that is.........
More random U2 thoughts........
I had to have a root canal a while back and while root canals aren't generally considered pleasant experiences the Dr. doing the work played Achtung, Baby in it's entirety during my visit. Somehow it made the experience a little bit more tolerable - that and the shitloads of Novocaine he gave me. Seriously people - I got waaaayyy more Novocaine that most people. My whole head was numb for about eight hours.
When I was in High School I used to work at the old Foxboro stadium selling beer during concerts and the odd soccer game. The best part of that particular job was that the beer stand I worked at was on the floor of the stadium facing the stage. I happened to be so lucky as to see many a band soundcheck. I saw U2 soundcheck while they were out on their ZooTV tour and well...I waved at Bono and he waved back at me.
The Dali Lama has also waved at me......another story for another day.
Happy Friday Everyone !

WTF Indeed.
WTF Moments...I have many of them. Too many in fact.
I found this little gem on another blog I read religiously. The post in it's entirety is HERE. ( You'll need to scroll down to the May 19th post. )
I was TOTALLY HORRIFIED when I watched it. I wasn't able to watch for more than a minute. So if you can make it all the way through this without vomiting in your mouth a little bit you're clearly a better person than I.
Did anyone else happen to hear that Preparation H is the hot new club drug ? Of course I heard this on Fox News so who knows if it is actually true. In case you hadn't heard they tend to make shit up and call it " fair and balanced ". I'm not convinced that the newscasters on Fox News are actual people . I prefer to think that they are some sort of robot automatons made in a secret lab. 'Cause really, who'd have so little self respect as to work for Fox News ?
On the other hand.........
.....doesn't this guy look like he'd think rubbing Preparation H all over himself to pick up chicks is a good idea ? Can't you just hear him saying " How you doin' ? " like Joey from Friends ?
Did I also hear that Al Franken is running for Senate in Minnesota ? Steph, please confirm this for me...cause I think I'm gonna have an aneurysm. In an odd way it makes sense to me. I mean, Minnesota is populated with just about the dang nicest people you could ever imagine ( I mean that - not being sarcastic here...) why wouldn't the guy who played Stuart Smalley run for Senate.
Brock and I had a yard sale last weekend and a bunch of Nigerians bought most of my shoes......ok, that's just plain weird. WEIRD !
So, those are my WTF moments for the week.
If you've had any WTF moments recently - by all means - please shoot me an email and let me know.

Retro Music Friday.
I'm not entirely sure why, but this particular song has always reminded me of our friend Walter. I can't really pin this song to a specific event or experience with Walter - but when I hear this song I think of him. If you ask Brock however, he'll tell you that this song reminds him of Walter.
Speaking of Walter - when Brock and I speak of Walter we ALWAYS smile and laugh. There are just so many " Walter stories "that send us into laughing fits. And for those not aware, Walter introduced Brock and I. Well, ok, it was more like Walt forced us to meet each other and would not let up until we went on a date. And as they say, the rest was history.
Our 10th wedding anniversary is this year.
This band is Temple of the Dog. It was formed by various member of Seattle grunge bands, you can read more about them HERE. I loved me some grunge back in the day. I really loved Pearl Jam and Nirvana. I liked Soundgarden too, but not quite as much.
The other night VH1 was doing a countdown of the best 90's tunes and Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden was on there - AWESOME SONG. Revisit it if you have a chance.
Speaking of Soundgarden, how hot was Chris Cornell back in the day ? He's still hot today !
Update: Brock does not see how on earth I can find Chris Cornell hot. Let me clarify, he's hot in an I-used-to-be-a-methhead-but-have-gone-to-rehab-and-am-now-clean kinda way.
Happy Friday Everyone !
