Retro Music Friday.

Today's song was inspired in part by the instructor of last night's spin class at the Y. She played this song for our last hard core set before cool down. Thanks for the idea Robin !

Back in the day I didn't much care for G & R, however as I've gotten a little older they've grown on me.

G&R is really kind of a sad story. Not many of them managed to escape unscathed. Have you seen Axel Rose these days ? Yikes ! I would not want to run into him in a dark alley. Slash does not look too bad though. And some of the other members have gone on to form Velvet Revolver. Brock has always been a big G & R fan, he also loves Velvet Revolver.

I kept thinking this song wasn't quite old enough to be retro. However imagine my surprise when I discovered that this little ditty was released in 1987. Yep, this tune is 21 years old. If it was a person it would be old enough to drink. This makes me feel old. =(

My favorite part of this song is toward the end....

Where do we go?....where do we go now?...where do we go?.....sweet child....

So, feel free to sing along if you know the words.

Where Is Bob Vila When You Need Him ? *

I got home from work today at about 6 pm. I came in the house and proceeded to do my regular routine.....turn on the lights....turn on the heat, put some food in the cat's dish.....ahem...go to the little girl's room.
I was in the little girl's room, doing my thing, when I heard the LOUDEST crash I've ever heard in My.Whole.Life.
Seriously, it was LOUD.
So I thought to myself " Well, I guess the deck finally fell down. " **
I hurried up in the bathroom and went to investigate the origin of the noise. I flipped the porch light on and lo and behold, the deck was fine.
Seeing as how I could find no damage in my apartment, I went downstairs.
I knocked on my neighbor's door. It took her a minute to answer.
She finally opened the door and I asked her what happened.
She didn't need to answer.
I looked over her shoulder and saw that one of her kitchen cabinets FELL RIGHT THE HELL OFF THE WALL ! Yeah, her kitchen cabinet fell off the wall. Fell down. The cabinets were no longer attached to the wall.
When does that ever happen ?
All of her dishes and her cabinet were on the kitchen floor, smashed to smithereens.
I asked her if she was OK and she said yes, she was fine. Although the cabinet FELL ON HER WHEN SHE OPENED IT !
So me, doing my best impression of Rebecca of SunnyBrook Farm said, " Well, I guess you have a good reason to go out and buy all new dishes. You could go to the Pottery Barn Outlet and get something really cute...."
The irony of all this is that we used to live downstairs. And when we moved out the landlord remodeled the entire apartment before his daughter moved in. The cabinets in question were not there when we lived there, they were put in new by her dad.
I guess daddy is going to be buying her new dishes.

* My dad ( the original Mr. Fix It ) can't stand Bob Vila. He thinks he's a total dumbass.
We joke that my Dad could have his own home improvement show, however, he'd probably spend most of his time drinking Dr. Pepper and taking smoke breaks. Not what the viewing public wants I don't think..
**I've been waiting for a long time for the deck to fall down. Seriously, it's thisclose to meeting the same fate as my neighbor's cabinet.

Adventures In Dork-dom, Chapter 1,549

As you may or may not know, I am in love with this site. Most nights, before I shove off to bed, I browse through their site and laugh my butt off. Yeah, picture it... me, sitting alone, in my Pjs, in the dark, laughing my ass off. I told you guys I need a kid bad......hehehe
The whole idea of the site is that the animals featured in the pictures are composing their thoughts, hence the misspelled words. People who register with the site can create their own cat pics and submit them to be voted on, and if your pic gets enough votes it will make it to the front page.
I finally signed in and created my own cat pics ( although on the site they call them LOLs ).
I am totally shocked that these did not make the voting page.

This was Brock's creation.
My take on the same pic.

I thought this one was going to make
the main page for sure.
My other caption I was thinking about for this one was
Cory Hart Kitteh sez..dont mess 'round wit kitteh in shadez..oh noes noes noes

I was also for sure that this one would do well,
but alas it was not a winner.
I thought this was pretty damn funny.
We went to an open studio show today in South Boston. One of my co-workers is an artist and some of his work was on display. You can get a good look at his work HERE.
There were some really interesting pieces on display, and all in all, it was a really nice experience.
We also went to Ikea today. Not that we really needed anything, but since we were in the neighborhood we figured we'd stop by. For those of you who've been to our place you know we have this weird office/den/sitting/all purpose room with cathedral ceilings and very little lighting. Well, today we finally addressed that issue and bought a lamp. It's amazing what light can do. It looks like a whole new room. I also ( finally ) found some throw pillows for the bed.
A busy day was had by all.

Retro Music Friday.

This one goes way back....1986 to be exact. I love this song, it's so cheesy and over the top I find it hard not to love. Brock however, hates this song with a burning, seething passion. It's like nails on a chalkboard to him.

Love it or hate it, it is what it is.

Enjoy.

Eleven.

In keeping with my Boston sports personalities theme,
this is Glen Davis.
He's a rookie ( and wears # 11) with the Celtics.
I believe he was drafted from LSU.
You can read more about him HERE.
Yes folks, today marks our eleven
month Log In Date Anniversary.
This time last year we were wrapping up
the paperwork for our dossier.
I think at that time I couldn't even have
imagined being logged in for 11 whole months.
Where does the time go ?
I read ( somewhere ) online that it is taking about
13 -15 months to get through the review room
at the CCAA and another 13-15 months for a referral.
We're not in the review room yet,
but I think we will have gone through review
by late spring or early summer.
If this holds true it means that
we might see a referral in September of 2009.
Thinking positive thoughts....

How long do you think they practiced this ? I mean, they've really got this down, don't they ?

I Never Met A Cupcake I Didn't Like.

We were in Pennsylvania over the weekend to enjoy Logan's very first Birthday party. We had a great time and were very happy to see everyone.
Our dear little Logan had a great time also, as can be evidenced below.

The cupcake tree. Beautiful, no ?
Kaylah guarding the cupcakes.
Or perhaps just trying to get some camera time.
Not really sure.

" What is this Birthday thing you keep telling me about and why
does this crazy lady keep taking my picture ? "

" Hey mom, I'm not sure about this. "

" Hmmm...guess this birthday thing isn't painful after all. "
" Cupcake you say ? "
" What cupcake ?"

Cupcake as performance art.

I don't think Avon sells this particular brand of
moisturizer.
After a bath.
Happy 1st Birthday to you Logan !

Happy Valentine's Day ! Happy Spring Training !

I'm wishing all of you a warm, fuzzy, love-filled Valentines Day. And not only is today V-day, it's also the start of Red Sox Spring Training.

Pitchers and catchers are supposed to report today.
However, our friend Youk has decided to show up
early as well.
And if you've not heard, our buddy Schilling's shoulder
may have him in early retirement.
Rumors of him being the 5th starter have been
swirling around lately.
Can't say I'm disappointed, he's kinda crazy
and I like that.
I'm so excited !

Can't Quit The Sick.

I'm not quite sure how Brock had this bug for 24 hours and 48 hours later I still own it.
He's totally healthy now, thank you very much. Me, not so much.
My cough that was irritating on Friday is now downright vicious and my joints ache like crazy.
And let me tell you my friends, cold meds ain't what they used to be.

Instead of leaving all of you with my incessant bitching, I'll give you Denis Leary's take on drugs and cold meds. CLICK HERE. ( you may want to remove the small kids from the room. )

Little By Little.....Life Starts To Make Sense Again.

Know what today is ???
The trucks carrying the Sox equiptment is being loaded
at Fenway Park ( or Paahk if you're a local )
and will begin the trip to sunny Florida.
Pitchers and catchers report on Thursday.
Wooo Hooo !
In other news, we are both ill here. Brock came down with
this little half-assed cold / flu type thing last Thursday, and being as
generous as he is he gave it to me.
It features an irritating cough, chest congestion
and aching joints.
My house is a mess and although
I really want to clean it up, I have zero energy.
Oh well, I'll try to trudge along.

Retro Music Friday - Another Two Fer.

We have this ongoing debate in our house about Van Halen. More specifically, which Van Halen is the better Van Halen. It has always been my opinion that the Diamond Dave Van Halen and the Sammy Hagar Van Halen are two distinctly different bands. Separate but equal, if you will. I think the VH's songs took on a bit more mature of a feel with Sammy. While the DLR VH had more of a frat party feel to it.

Brock is steadfastly in the corner of the DLR Van Halen is the orignal and still the best VH.

So, here are two VH videos. Judge for yourself which one you prefer.

Have a great day everyone !

Perhaps Even Better Than Christmas Morning.

Guess what starts next week ? Anyone know ? Anyone ? Bueller ? Bueller ?
Thats right kids....PITCHERS AND CATCHERS REPORT FOR RED SOX SPRING TRAINING !!!!
Woooooo Hoooooo !!!!!!
I'm so excited I can hardly stand it !
I like the Pats and all, and I'm really sad that they lost the Super Bowl, but dude...give me Red Sox baseball any day of the week.
Spring training means that very soon ( not soon enough though ) windows will be permenantly open in our house, the grill will be going and Don & Jerry will be on surround sound.
And that is the only thing keeping me going through all this gray, dreary, depressing February weather.

Brock and I went to spring training in Ft. Myers a few years ago. We had a blast !

City of Palms Park
So CLAP CLAP CLAP !!! LETS GO SOX !!! WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!

Super Bowl Halftime Report By Bunny.

This is ugly. Really ugly. I can't believe Tom Brady has been sacked three times in the first half.
And where is Randy Moss and when is he going to show up to the game ? The Pats have had one interception and one fumble end in their favor and do not manage to capitalize on either of them ?! What is going on here people ?
Tom's front line needs to do a better job protecting him. The defensive line really needs to rattle Eli Manning's cage. He is a major head case and once sufficently rattled he is not likely to recover...after all he is the little brother of the biggest head case of all Peyton Manning.

The Pats need to have a few 50 yard+ bombs to Randy Moss or Wes Welker and finish off the Giants. Seriously dudes...drive the nails in Eli's coffin once and for all.
I mean really...the New York Giants ? We might as well be playing the local JV football team.

Come on Pats, get it together.

Random Thoughts.

* Brock and I decided to try "Spin" class yesterday at the Y. If you're not familiar with
"Spin " class it is basically a really intense-balls out cycling class that lasts for an hour. As if an hour of crazy-mad cycling was not enough, they crank the heat in the room to about 85 degrees so you sweat like a swine in heat. Oh. My. God. I felt pretty good when I got home after class yesterday. Today, however, is a different story. My right calf is KILLING me. My butt hurts too. Those bike seats are hard ! I'm going to try to stick with it. They have a 6AM class Monday through Friday. Hmm...lets see how motivated I am to roll into the Y @ the crack of dawn.

* I took one of my clients to Subway for lunch this afternoon and while we were sitting there enjoying our Sandwich of the Day special a Chinese girl ( maybe 6 years old or so ) walked in with her not Chinese mother. I nearly burst into tears. That snuck up on me....wasn't expecting that one.
We've resigned ourselves to the fact that we will be waiting a very long time for a child. And really, we're OK with it. I think that once one has made peace with something, whatever it is, it's like a burden off your shoulders. The uncertainy of it all, mixed with all the other options we were exploring was really making us nuts.
We went through the same thing when we trying to decide wether or not to continue with fertility treatments or adopt. Once we decided that we were going to adopt ( although it felt like adoption chose us...) it was finally peaceful in our house.
I know our baby is out there somewhere and hopefully one day she ( or he ) will find her ( or his ) way to us.
And in case some of you have not heard, there are really terrible snow storms in China right now. Many of the orphanges are having a hard time keeping food and diapers stocked. Not to mention keeping the orphanages heated.
There are some people who are going to get referrals this week and I know it must be difficult for them to know that their babies are out there going through all this.

* In case you've been living under a rock for four months....the Pats are in their fourth Super Bowl in seven years tonight. And although I am not at all concerened that they will lose....sometimes I have this little shimmer of doubt that they might not pull it off.....
then I snap out of it.....GO PATS !!!!!

* Miami Vice trivia time.....does anyone know who Sonny Crockett's ( Don Johnson )original partner was ? It was not Ricardo Tubbs ( Philip Michael Thomas ). Anyone know ? Anyone ? Anyone wanna guess ?
It was this guy. And they killed him off on the very first episode of MV.

What's In A Name ?

What Erica Means

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.
You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.
At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.
You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are very open. You communicate well, and you connect with other people easily.
You are a naturally creative person. Ideas just flow from your mind.
A true chameleon, you are many things at different points in your life. You are very adaptable.

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.

Mmm....anyone think this is me ?

______________________________________________

I thought I should put this in today's post. Brock made this for dinner, and it was gooooood. He used beef filet instead of venison though, venison is a little too gamey for me. Beef worked great, and the chopped gherkins were a pleasant surprise. I highly reccomend this. In my opinion, Jamie Oliver can do no wrong.

Retro Music Friday - Two Fer.

I thought I'd give you guys a treat today and post two videos. In case you didn't catch onto my theme here......Phil Collins ( occasionally ) had guest appearances on Miami Vice as a drug dealer.

Tell me you can't help but sing Against All Odds at the top of your lungs. What a great song !

My efforts at the gym are starting to pay off. I've already lost 2 lbs this week !
