Crap.

I just got an email from Wide Horizons stating that this month's referrals will only cover January 5th through January 9th 2006.
Five.
Stinking.
Days.

Yuck !

I was really hoping for at least a one week batch - or perhaps 10 whole days. But I knew that 10 days would really be pushing it.
Our agency has a group with a Log In Date of January 10, 2006 and unfortunately they are not included in this months referrals.
I do not know these people, however, my heart breaks for them. I know that if I were them and I were thisclose to getting a referral and then had to wait one more month I would be devastated. Like I'm-not-going-to-work-tomorrow-but-instead-will-lay-in-bed-all-day devastated.

I'm beginning to think that a late spring / early summer 2010 referral will be out of the question for us. If the CCAA keeps a steady 5 day per month referral pace we'll not see a referral for about 60 more months.......that's five years.
At which point we'll both be 37 at time of referral and over 40 with a child in kindergarten.

I've hear various rumors that things will speed up after the summer Olympics. I've also heard that a lot of provinces have raised the " donation " from $3500 to $5000, the idea being that they'd have more incentive to get babies paper ready for matching.
What the real truth is- who really knows.
The only thing that I know to be 100 % true is that there is nothing either one of us can do about it.

In for the long haul.

Happy Birthday To Me !

Guess what I got for my birthday from my wonderful husband......
why it's the Microsoft Zune! It can hold up to 25,000 songs, videos, pictures, podcasts, TV shows and movies !

( mine is pink )

The best way to describe it is as the next generation iPod. I really like it. I've put a couple of tunes on it already. My cousin Aaron has the biggest iPod library on earth, so I plan on expanding my library as soon as he is home from college. My Aunt took me out for breakfast this morning and afterward we went to Target and she bought me speakers to go along with it.
I'm going to put some more songs on it tonight and we're going to rock out.

Last night we went to Myers & Chang for dinner - it was great. The food was totally delish. We had edemame and celery slaw, pork belly dumplings, tea smoked spare ribs and wok-charred udon noodles with chicken. I can't say enough about it. Really delish food, great atmosphere, attentive service. Four very big thumbs up on this end. I'm sure we'll find ourselves back there again soon.

After dinner we walked down to Flour bakery for a little dessert. I got a macaroon and Brock got a double chocolate cookie - which he described as " insane ".
Then when we got home we had vegan birthday cake that my wicked awesome husband made.
It also was totally delish.

Now that we have a new bed I feel the need to 1) get a new lamp and 2) put some new art work on the walls.
As far as the new artwork goes I have an early contender and this is it....

This is Andy Warhol's
Rebirth of Venus in Blue.

I was really looking from something 20th century pop art.
I had some other contenders. Namely Picasso and Kandinsky, but Andy Warhol spoke to me.
I'll have to let you know what the final verdict is. If anyone has any other thoughts or suggestions by all means please drop me a line.

Movin' On Up Like George And Weezy.

To that deluxe apartment in the sky........
OK - it's hardly a deluxe apartment in the sky we have but,
WE HAVE NEW FURNITURE !
For those not familiar, Jordan's is having a promotion where if the Sox sweep the world series this year all of our purchases from yesterday are FREE !
They had the same promotion last year and we were absolutely KICKING ourselves that we didn't buy any furniture.

We went sofa shopping yesterday and came home with this;

This would be a leather sleigh bed. A bit dramatic...perhaps even ridiculous...but totally awesome. We ripped apart our bedroom last night and put up our new bed. Man oh man, it feels like our bedroom is like a shi-shi hotel room now.

We purchased a sofa as well. Being the wonderful wife I am I let Brock pick out the sofa. I chose our last sofa ( a sage/mushroom colored overstuffed micro suede ) that Brock, for many reasons, hates. I must say he did do a wonderful job picking out our new sofa.
It is a crescent shaped camel colored leather. It's special order and should be here in 5 to 8 weeks.

So, we're praying for a Sox series sweep.
CLAP CLAP CLAP !! GO SOX !!! WOOO HOOOO !!!

If you've never seen Dave & CO live we highly recommend seeing them. They are awesome live. Seriously, one of the best shows we've ever seen.

Retro Music Friday. Long Distance Dedication.

This week's RMF is a long distance dedication to Molls & Dickie - two people I don't see near enough**. Molls moved to Revere and Dickie is currently attending law school @ LSU.

I'm not sure if anyone remembers ( according to my sister I remember a lot of crap that nobody else does ) but Casey Kasem, who hosted American Top 40 back in the day, used to have a segment of the show ( Long Distance Dedication ) where he'd read a letter sent in from a listener. Usually the letter would be some big, sappy melodrama about the love of the author's life or their sick friend, or whatever. It would usually end with Casey playing Faithfully by Journey. I have no big, sappy story, just some tunes I thought my friends would enjoy.

My friend Molls loves rap music. Finding retro rap was a trick, but at Molls' request I found a Beastie Boys tune. Also, Molls brought this to my attention. Thanks Molls !

I'm not going to say that Dickie doesn't enjoy rap, however, he is more into metal and classic rock. When we were discussing various inspirations for RMF he suggested White Lion. I really wanted to put White Lion on here this week, I really did. However, I thought that old-school Def Leppard would have more street cred than White Lion. This Def Leppard vid is truly old-school because if you look carefully, all the member are 1) still alive and 2) still have all their limbs. If anyone wants to hear White Lion CLICK HERE.

So that's it. I hope everyone has a great week.

For Your Consideration.

I've tried to stay mostly a-political on my blog. I know I've made no secret of the fact that I am supporting Barack Obama during this election, but I realize that politics can be very polarizing so I've really tried to be as middle of the road as I can. Which has been really difficult for me.

But seeing as how this week we've passed a very heart-wrenching milestone of 4,000 DEAD AMERICANS - not counting the folks who died on 9/11, I feel the need to speak up and make some comparisons.........

Barack Obama...President of the Harvard Law review.
( He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard )

George Bush...Yale Cheerleader.

Barack Obama.....Professor @ Univ. of Chicago Law School.

George Bush,
4,000 dead American soldiers with countless
thousands more wounded ( and not getting
proper care when they return home ),
Gas is over $3 a gallon
( which I said would happen when he took office
in 2000, yet no one believed me ),
Economy is in a recession,
The dollar is at an all time low,
Foreclosed homes at a record high,
Jobs shipped overseas,
Huge tax breaks for corporations,
Drilling in ANWLR,
Katrina,
Millions without health care coverage,
Your civil rights slowly being eroded,
I could go on an on, however I think the following
picture speaks for itself.

This is your president folks.
Ashamed ? Embarrassed ?
I certainly am.

The point I am trying to make is that I love my country too much to stand idly by while she's being flushed down the toilet.
I know we are better than this. Remember after 9/11 when the entire country banded together and held each other up - that's the America I love. It shouldn't something like 9/11 for us to come together like that, in my mind it's possible for compassion and fellowship like that to happen everyday.

Should Be A National Holiday....

Does anyone know what tomorrow happens to be ? Anyone ? Anyone ?

Why it's RED SOX OPENING DAY ! Tomorrow our beloved Sox open the season in Japan against the Oakland A's of Los Angeles, er...Anaheim....ahh...The Oakland A's of Anaheim in Los Angeles city...er..state ? Ok, let's just call them the A's.

And since they are opening the season in Japan the game will be broadcast on NESN at 6AM. Meaning that I'll be able to watch my beloved Sox while I'm eating my oh-so-good-for-me Muesli cereal straight from the English hillside. I think it'll be a pleasant change from my regular BBQ and vodka induced coma on my couch at 7PM game nights.

Seeing as how tomorrow is opening day I hope you all enjoy this skit from Major League. I really wanted to find the skit from Bull Durham where Kevin Costner and Tim Robbins are in back of the bar and KC punches TR in the nose....but alas, that skit was not on YouTube.

I have fond memories of Major League as it is the first movie I was allowed to see in the theatre without my parents.

I think Charlie Sheen is was right in the middle of his Heidi Fleiss days at the time he made this movie.

I was discussing opening day with my coworker Pat today and we both agreed that the Sox opening day should, at the very least, be a state holiday. I mean, it's a nice idea and I'd love to see it happen, but it's not likely. Although this is Massachusetts and certainly crazier shit has happened here**, so you never know - it might happen one day.

In other news; I'm beginning to think this woman and I were separated at birth. I had almost the exact same experience at my mom's house last week.

Ok, with that I'm going to leave y'all now. I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

Retro Music Friday - HAPPY ONE YEAR LID ANNIVERSARY TO US !!!!

Today is our one year LID anniversary, as if you couldn't tell by
the title of today's post.
As most of you well know, # 12
is Tom Brady - the best QB in the NFL.
We love you Tom !

And because today is our one year anniversary

I have a special video planned - I think this song is appropriate

given today's significance.

Had our agency been right about referral time frames

when we went to their informational meeting in 2006

we'd be seeing a referral right about now....

but as it stands we have one year down and perhaps ( worst case scenario )

three more to go.

At any rate, please enjoy today's song.

This song is from 1981. I was in kindergarten.

And in my research I found out that

Tom Petty was my age now when he filmed

this video.

P.S. Molly, I know I said that this week's RMF was going to be a

long distance request and dedication for you and Dickie, but I only realized what today's date was last night. I'll put you guys on next week, I promise.

The Random-ness That Is My Life.

A bunch of random stuff today. Here goes;

Remember Crack In A Sack ? After a long winter hiatus
it's finally back in stores. I bought the biggest bag of it
I'd ever seen at Bed, Bath & Beyond two weeks
ago. Brock and I managed to polish it off
last night. Mmmmm.
BTW, did you know that you can use
those BB&B 20% off coupons at Linens n' Things ?

We picked up an Easter gift for our
niece yesterday. I thought this bathing suit was tres chic.
Very Pucci-esques.

And it had a matching cover up.
How could I pass this up ?

Brock picked up this cereal from WFM this week and
let me tell you, it is mighty tasty.
We also managed to polish off a box of
it this week. My only complaint it that it
is a little heavy with the raisins.
You can find out more about it HERE.

Mama's got a brand new toy - or perhaps I should
call it another piece of machinery that
scares the crap out of my cats.
This is the Hoover Floor Scrubber.
I was totally prepared to scrub my kitchen floor
with my trusty scrub brush and bucket, but Brock seemed to
think there was a better way of going about it.
The last time I cleaned the kitchen floor ( on my hands and knees )
I threw my back out.
We found it on clearance at Kohl's for really cheap.
Really. Cheap.
And it works really great.

* I'm not entirely sure, but I think SOMEONE IS COPYING ME. I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but this may border on plain, old unoriginal.

* Imagine my surprise when I saw the guy I had the MOST MASSIVE crush on in High School yesterday. Oh. My. God. I was in a retail establishment, waiting in line and when I made it to the front of the line I looked up and HOLY CRAP ! There he was ! Behind the counter !
HOLY CRAP !
I don't think he recognized me. Hell, I was nearly invisible in High School and yesterday I looked like I was in the FBI witness protection program. We went out to run some errands and I didn't see the need to shower, I just threw on my sweats and a ball cap and off we went.
Of course I tell Brock about Mr. Massive Crush and he looks back to take a peek. I'm sure you can all guess what ensued.....as I have said before Brock never misses an opportunity to make fun of me.
* I've been trying to get in touch with my new gyno all week. I called again yesterday and they told me they'd call right back. And for some reason I just did not believe them.
Did they call me back you ask ? Of course not. Did I mention I hate Dr.'s ?
* Reason # 14,992 that the Yankees suck can be found HERE. Total Asshats.

Retro Music Friday - El Jefe.

I had sort of a dual inspiration for this week's song. I went to spin class last night and this was the last song the instructor played before cool down. And then I was online yesterday and I came across this story from an Australian news service;

A WOMAN stabbed her de facto husband to death after he stopped her playing her favourite Bruce Springsteen CD.Karen Lee Cooper told arresting police: "I couldn't even play Bruce Springsteen on my stereo - can you believe that? Can you believe that?" She later again told police: "I mean, who doesn't like Bruce Springsteen?" "I'm 49 years old and I want to play my own music." In the Supreme Court in Brisbane today, Cooper, 50, was jailed for eight years. She pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Kevin Lee Watson on July 8, 2006. She was originally charged with murder but the Crown accepted a manslaughter plea on the basis she had no intention to kill. The court heard Cooper stabbed Watson through the aorta after they had been drinking at their Cedar Grove home, south of Brisbane.

I guess the moral of the story is that you shouldn't mess with a gal's CDs.

At any rate, this song kicks ass. It is one of those rare songs that you can't help but crank the volume and sing along. I hope you all enjoy it.

The End Of An Era.

Well folks, as stated above, it is the end of an era in Boston. Doug Mirabelli has been officially released by the Red Sox.
Believe me, there are many a tear being shed right at this very moment all round Red Sox Nation.

For those not familiar, Dougie ( as he is affectionately known in these parts ) was the knuckle ball specialist catcher for pitcher Tim Wakefield. He is kind of a cult hero in Boston as can be referenced with the never ending Dougie's going deep shtick. You can read it HERE.

Doug was as smooth as ice with a catcher's mitt - as graceful as a ballerina if you will.

No one could catch for Wake quite like Dougie. Many have tried ( remember Kevin Cash ? )
and they all failed. In fact, so many failed that Dougie was given a police escort to Fenway park to catch a game for Wake after being re-signed from the San Diego Padres.

My friend Molls is quite upset about this. She feels like this is her version of John Lennon being shot. She feels that the Red Sox just don't know how to work with Dougie. Her exact words were
" WTF ! Just let him do BP naked and eat a chicken parm and have a scorpion bowl and he'll hit bombs over the wall every night ! "
Again - you have to read Dougie's going deep to get why this is funny.

God Speed Dougie.
There will always be a free beer and double chicken parm at Joe Tecci's for you in Boston.

Retro Music Friday Then And Now - 250 POSTS !!!!

Today is my 250th Post ! Seeing as how today is my 250th post I'm going to give you guys a treat....THREE VIDEOS TODAY !!

Anyway, onto business. I was really struggling to find inspiration for Retro Music Friday this week. Usually something will hit me or I'll hear a tune in the car and get my idea for the week. This week I was thinking of bands with retro tunes who are still relevant when the RHCP came to mind. So I went on Youtube and tried to find the perfect video for this week when I came across this week's song. I wasn't sure if a band with retro tunes doing a cover of a retro song was too much. I mean, that's a lot of retro going on, but I figured since it's my blog I can do what I want.

I happen to love this Bee Gees song. It's one of my favorites. Although I think covers of popular songs can be kind of tricky - sometimes they are really great and sometimes they suck and do the original version no justice. This cover I think falls somewhere in the middle.

Remember last week's RMF when I alluded to members of G & R not escaping unscathed from their heyday - fortunately RHCP did manage to escape unscathed as John Frusciante went through the river of shit known as heroin addiction and came out clean on the other side. You can read more about John by clicking on his name. BTW, I found out after the fact that John Frusciante's birthday was this week. Divine inspiration perhaps ?

This is my favorite RHCP song from back in the day. 1992 to be exact - I was a sophomore in High School.

This is my current favorite RHCP song. In fact I liked it so much I made it my ring tone on my phone. I totally dig Flea's baseline here. And doesn't the drummer Chad Smith look a little like Will Ferrell ?

File Under D for Dumbass.

Eddie Van Halen Says Cigarettes Unrelated to Mouth Cancer.
Valerie Bertinelli tells Ladies' Home Journal about her ex Eddie Van Halen's 2002 battle with cancer: "The guy has mouth cancer, gets part of his tongue cut out, and he still insists cigarettes have nothing to do with it."...
"There was so much denial, so much not talking," Bertinelli tells the Journal. Van Halen has cited a metal guitar pick he held in his mouth as contributing to his cancer.
As for the practitioner of alternative medicine who helped treat her ex, Bertinelli says: "You should have seen the guy he attributes his 'cure' to. They sat around drinking and smoking in our hotel room. But, well, cancer hasn't come back yet, so who am I to say."

Clearly Eddie is not a Mensa Candidate.

Yo Soy Red Sox Nation.

In previous posts you've read that it is that time of year again. That's right, it's time for Red Sox baseball - the most wonderful time of the year.
However, let us not forget about the New York Spankees...oops, I mean Yankees.
George Steinbrenner, the owner of the Spanks is now elderly and senile. His son Hank is now running the show. Which, as my peeps over at Surviving Grady have nailed right on the head, means the new boss is the same as the old boss. That is to say, a trash-talking, class-less* New York Yankees fan.

He had this to say in a recent interview.

Steinbrenner, apparently trying to emphasize that he has no fear of the Yankees' American League competition, has amped up the rivalry between the two teams, intentionally or not. "Red Sox Nation?" What a bunch of [expletive] that is," he said in an interview with The New York Times' Play magazine. "That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which is filled with Red Sox fans."Go anywhere in America and you won't see Red Sox hats and jackets, you'll see Yankee hats and jackets. This is a Yankee country. We're going to put the Yankees back on top and restore the universe to order."

Excuse me ? Universe back in order ? You and what army Hank ? A washed up Johnny Damon ?
Robinson Cano ? A pitching staff on more drugs than Anna Nicole ?

Ooooohhhh..I'm shaking in my boots Hank.

We are Red Sox Nation and we are legion.

Xooo
Bunny

* When I say that the Yankees and their fans are totally class-less I sure as hell mean it. Last year at a Yanks home game a couple of those angels of mercy known as Yanks fans threw a disabled fan of the opposing team off the balcony, further disabling him.
P.S. I found a video of Barack's speech we saw yesterday. It is HERE.

01 March 2008

Got Hope ?

Brock and I had the chance to be witnesses to history today when we ( and my Aunt ) went to see Barack Obama speak at Rhode Island College ( RI's primary is this Tues. ).
It was a very long day. The line we waited in stretched as far as the eye could see. I wasn't entirely sure we were going to get in. It took us about 2 hours in line to make it into the building, then we waited another two hours for the speech to begin.
My patience was getting a little thin as we waited an eternity for him to get in and get the ball rolling.

However....

Once he began to speak it was truly electrifying. I forgot all about waiting outside in the cold, then being unbearably hot once I got into the building.
I've supported Barack from the beginning, but seeing him today only reaffirmed that I had made the correct choice when I voted in the Mass primary.
For too long I've felt that the leadership in this country did not reflect the make up of it's constituents, that there was a real disconnect between who and what this country is and the representation we have been receiving and showing the rest of the world. I sure as hell know that the current administration does not represent me or my values.

I know that Americans as a whole are more alike than we are different. We all want the same things. We all care for our neighbors and want to see them do well. Among many other things we also want good paying jobs, good education for our kids and we all want to be safe in our homes and communities.

I think that after eight years of...pardon my frankness....total bullshit in the White House change is long overdue.

I think Barack is the only candidate that can bring us together after so many years of being divided. We can change this country and make it something that we can all be proud of.

To get a better idea of what I witnessed today you can CLICK HERE. Although this was not the speech I saw, it's very similar.

To check out Barack's site please see the link on my side bar.

So, from now on adayinthelifeofbunny.blogpsot.com is proudly supporting Barack Obama for president.

Got hope ? I do now.
