Let's Play A Game.....

This is sort of like playing " Where's Waldo ? " The object of the game is to find the boobies.

I'm calling this game " Boobies...No Boobies. " Whomever finds the boobies wins a prize.

Or perhaps I should have titled this little game " Find the eating disorder. "

Some really great articles regarding adoption.

I found a couple of articles regarding transracial adoption. More specifically they are from the point of view of the adoptee as an adult.
They are both really great reads, check them out if you have time.

This one is from a newspaper in Maine.
and
This one is from the Rainbowkids website.

Enjoy.

Ever had a spinach mojito ?

Brock and I and Molly went out to a free Guinness tasting party in Boston last night. We got to up to the city pretty early, as the invitation to the tasting party read that the doors close 15 before the start of the event. We ended up being very early. So early that we ended up getting apps at a cute little restaurant down the street from the event hall. I won't go into too many details, but, let's just say BORING !!!!
We ended up taking the free glasses and high-tailing it out of there in a hurry.
Then we found ourselves at the Foundation Lounge in Kenmore Square ( a hop, skip and a jump from Fenway ). And wouldn't you know, we found ourselves DRINKING !
I had a mojito ( mmmm...) that Molly affectionately referred to as the " Spinach Mojito " due to the excessive amount of mint they put in it.
Needless to say, Molly ( who was having mango martinis ) and I were pretty sloppy.
Then we happened to find ourselves at Uburger ( also in Kenmore Square ) for burgers.
All in all a pretty fun evening.

Brock picked out this dress at a consignment shop this afternoon. I think its cute. Don't you ?

BTW, I'm selling shit on Ebay now.

I have a confession to make...

I LOVE Disco music. I really do. Nothing makes me want to boogie more than " Boogie Oogie Oogie " and " Hot Stuff " I love to boogie. Yes I do.
Here are some of my all time favorite disco songs, again, in no particular order.
1. Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel - Tavares. Personally I think this should be my theme song. I think some would disagree. But whatever. I have been dying to get this as my ring tone, but thus far I have been unsuccessful. :-(
2. Boogie Oogie Oogie - Taste of Honey
3. Hot Stuff - Donna Summer
4. Disco Inferno - The Trammps
5. Too Hot - Kool and The Gang
6.Love Rollercoaster - Ohio Players.

I'm sure there are others, I just can't think of them right now.

Brock and I think that these signs should be prominently displayed at Grandma's house.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mmmm Hmmmm.... Love you guys !

Ray Rocks !

I am recommending that all of you go out and get Ray Lamontagne's CDs. He is awesome.
In a world filled with regurgitated, unimaginative, poppy bubble gum crap it is refreshing to hear really, really good singer / songwriter. To paint you a picture here, he sort of sounds like a cross between Joe Cocker and Stephen Stills.

I especially like " Three More Days ". Man oh man I could listen to it 150 times in a row.
Seriously folks, do not deprive yourselves of his music. I implore you, BUY THIS CD !!!!
A secondary, but no less important recommendation I have for you guys is Michael Buble's new CD " Call Me Irresponsible ". Two very big thumbs up. I LOVE his cover of " Me & Mrs. Jones "
AWESOME !

You're nobody until somebody bugs you.....

Many people are bugging me lately. This may sound odd, but as of late I am finding it much easier to work with mentally handicapped people than members of my own family ( mine and the in-laws ).

You see, its like this....

If I know someone is metally handicapped it sort of levels the playing field. I can anticipate stupid shit to happen.
Then you have people ( not naming names here ) who are related to you whom you think are normal, and then they go all I am Sam on you.

This shit is wearing me down.

Although, its not anything that a rum & coke and a little Tina Turner can't fix.

BTW, did you know I can really turn it out with " Private Dancer " ?

Oh, and today is Al Franken's birthday. So all together now....." I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and doggone it, people like me ! "

It is not all cute flip flops and knockoff designer handbags over here.

In an earlier post I had admitted that I cruise ( many ) trashy celeb tabloid sites. However, I did not want anyone to think that I am all style and no substance.

Beneath this glittering facade is a deep and reflective thinker. Self Actualization is very important to me.

That being said, here is a list of all my favorite website that have nothing at all to do with celebrities.

NPR - National Public Radio
I especially love the BBC World Service. News sounds so much better in a British accent.

The Huffington Post - I admit, I am a bleeding heart liberal. I make no apologies for this.

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach - If you've seem Shalom In the Home you'll know what I'm talking about here. I love his blog.

Dr. Andrew Weil - Nice tips for general health and well being.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

What is it about the freakin' sock basket ?

My cats are obsessed with the sock basket. Whether knocking it over ( see the " my cat is a trouble maker " post ) or sleeping in it, they cannot seem to get enough. If you'll notice from the last picture most of the socks are now residing next to, not in, the basket.
I feel they like the basket because it is slightly dark and mysterious. Sort of like the bat cave.
The cat pictured also seem to particularly enjoy hanging out in the back of the closet.
I think that perhaps I have not established my authority with these two hooligans.
I will be reclaiming my sock basket this weekend.
Wish me luck.

Just Call Him Fred.....

Last night we went to my sister's nursing school pinning ceremony at Rhode Island College.
From what I could gather a pinning ceremony is sort of like a * special * graduation just for nurses.
There were nine of us that went, including my sister's soon to be niece Darien, who is six.
Now, I'll be honest, I've not spent much time with Darien and do not know her very well.
Nor she me. It took a long time for her to stop calling me " Alyssa's Friend ".

Apparently she was riding in the car with her mother and grandmother confirming the names of everyone in attendance. She identified everyone correctly, until it came to Brock.
She pointed at our car and very earnestly said " ....and that is Erica and Fred. "

Fred....hmmmmm.....I could think of worse names to be called.
Of course Brock found " Fred " to be very amusing.

Please forgive the picture quailty. I did the best I could under the circumstances.

Lindsey Lohan's Nipples Are A Great Motivator.

Last night I had asked Brock ( several times ) very nicely to help me tidy up the kitchen and dining room table.
The first time he replied with " Uh Huh. "
The second time was " Mmmm"
The third was " In a minute "
The fourth was no reply.

So I figured that if he was going to sit and watch the Sox I was certainly not going to kill myself cleaning up.

To back track a bit here.... I've been * trying * to keep the house tidy so I do not spend an eternity cleaning on the weekends.

So if he was going to sit on his ass so was I. I was surfing one of the many trashy celeb tabloid sites I visit when I happened to come across a pic of Lindsey Lohan's nipples. Ok, not both nipples, just one nipple.

Then I said " Hey, wanna see Lindsey Lohan's nipples ? "

He shot off the couch like his ass was on fire.
No Joke.

So, if you do not want to see Li Lo's nipple then by all means DO NOT CLICK HERE !

Just a little anecdote for today.

Thanks to Antiques Road Show we all know what Patina means.

Brock and I went " antique-ing " yesterday in Brimfield, Massachusetts. Brimfield hosts this truly massive flea market/ yard sale / antiques show three times a year. I've always wanted to check it out but never had the chance until now. We were there for about two hours and quickly realized that there is a reason they host it over a three day period. We were having this leisurely stroll and quickly realized that we could be there all day. After two hours all the different tents started to amalgamate into one gigantic tent and we unable to differentiate one tent from the next, so we decided to hit the road.

Brock was pretty pleased that he was able to find a Kettle Corn booth. I was surprised that he only bought a small bag. Usually when he finds homemade Kettle Corn we have to get the bathtub sized bag.
I ended up getting this costume jewelry red beaded necklace and.....the chairs pictured above.
We saw these chairs right when we first got there and I fell in love with them. I thought they were a quirky ( and if I am anything it is quirky ) and wanted to get them. They are very sturdy and in great shape. The seat bottoms fold up and then the whole thing can be folded flat. Very cool.
After our two hour stroll we went back for them as they were at a booth on the way back to the car.

The guy ( One very burned out old stoner. Too many hits off the bong ) that ran the booth they were in specialized in " vintage " eye wear and random other crap. ( my chairs fell into the random other crap category ) I am using the term " vintage " loosely. Most of his " vintage " eye wear consisted of circa 1987 Joe Boxer sunglasses from K-Mart. ( I wouldn't worry about this guy putting you out of business Steph )
I had to wait for him to stop talking to these to Yahoos from Connecticut ( what is it with people from Connecticut anyway ? ) so I could haggle with the old stoner. I had Brock guard the chairs in the meantime. Which means he stood next to them eating his kettle corn giving me the " Let's get the show on the road " look.
After the two yahoos left I proceed to haggle and ended up paying the asking price for them.
Not one of my better haggling moments. His price was not unreasonable though, I think he could have bought some quality shrooms with the proceeds.
I inquired about their background and he told me that they came out of a building that was a church in 1830 then turned into some sort of a lodge in 1890. I have a feeling that they are not from 1830, but they could be at least 100 years old. The guy could have pulled that story out of his ass, so who knows the real story on them.
I thought about refinishing them, but I think I am just just going to clean them with Murphy's Oil Soap instead. I don't want to ruin the patina.
Brock thinks I should have titled this post " Funky Cold Patina ". I told you he was a comedian.
All in all a very nice day.

Oh, I almost forgot. This is for you Dickie. hehehe

Erica is having a pity party today.

If I have to hear about one more person getting pregnant I may throw myself off a roof. I am beginning to feel that everyone in the entire world is determined to have a child before us. I am finding it more and more difficult to smile and be polite when people tell me " Oh so and so is having a baby " or " Oh we met our birth parents today. " So then I try to not think about our lack of a baby and go about my life, but then again, how can I not think about it ? There are people out there that I know who have kids and lack the ability to care for them and from all outward appearances are totally disinterested in their children's lives. I think about our baby every single day. I know Brock does too.
It does not help that we have certain family members who are completely insensitive and make comments without regard for others feelings. Then again, I expect no less from this person.

Perhaps I am uncomfortable feeling this vulnerable. I seem to always feel like I need to be Wonder Woman ( thanks ma ! ) and have trouble recognizing that I have a human side too.

Brock seems to think that some higher power is trying to teach is patience. I have a truck load of patience. What I don't have is a baby.

WHERE IS SHE ??????????????????????????????

This concludes this portion of the Erica pity party. We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog.

Thanks for listening.

These are too freakin' cute.....

I found these on a webstore called Blooming Bows. They have the CUTEST hair bows and accessories I have ever seen. Oh. My. God.
I had to hold back and not buy everything..I mean, it was just all so cute.
I did find these especially precious, so I bought them.
Can you not see these on our little girl's head, perhaps attached to oh-so-tiny piggy tails ?
" Hello, my name is Erica and I get geeked out about hair bows. It's been two weeks since I've bought any baby clothes."
" Hi Erica "
Thanks for humoring me.

My Cat Is A Trouble Maker.

This is the sock basket on the floor.
( Tilt your head to the right for a more accurate picture. )
This is my cat.

This is my cat and the sock basket on the floor.

For those of you who may not know, I refuse to fold socks. I happen to think that this task is very tedious and unnecessary. I merely gather up all the socks that come out of the dryer and throw them in the above captioned basket.
Sometime during Sunday afternoon I heard a crash. And for those of you who do not own cats, hearing random crashes is not uncommon.
Upon hearing said crash I went to investigate its origin.
My lovely cat Chablis ( like the wine ) decided that she MUST lay where the sock basket was residing.
The " Who Me ? " look on her face is just priceless.
Like Brock says, " It is Chablis's world, we just live in it. "

Did anyone else catch the " Who the *@&%$ is Jackson Pollock " piece on 60 Minutes last night ? It was pretty funny. I will try to find more on this and post something soon.

Brock runs ( another ) 5K.

Waiting in the registration line.
Getting his race number and t-shirt.

Pinning on his race number.

Stretching before the race.

Confident Brock before the race.

A man and his ipod, a love story.

The race is about to start.

Here he comes...

There he goes.....

Brock did not run quite as well as he had hoped. Then again he has worked two weeks straight and has completely forgotten about this race until Thursday. He was a little unprepared to say the least.
In other news we helped my sister move some stuff into her very first apartment. Then the three of us went off to IKEA as my sister had never been.
All in all a busy day.

I Don't Know What It Is About This Stuff.....

I LOVE Vitamin Water. Love it, Love it, Love it ! I have one everyday and I feel GRRRREAT !
I'd been feeling unusually good for about two weeks now and I was chalking it up to all the nice warm weather and sunshine, but then it occurred to me that it could be the Vitamin Water.
I have some favorite flavors, they are as follows.....

Peach - Mango ( very difficult to find )
Lemon Aid
Formula 50 ( I think it may be pronounced " fiddy " )
and
XXX ( new flavor, blueberry / pomegranate etc. Very Good ! )

I highly recommend them.

In other news, Brock and I are hooked on " Run's House " on MTV. Now, by and large, Brock and I do not watch MTV ( or any reality TV for that matter ) anymore mostly because we are not their target demographic audience. " Run's House " seems to be entertaining though. Catch it if you can.
